Inspiration Day – Preparation for the Exhibition

On 15 March 2026, thirteen artists participating in the upcoming exhibition gathered at Paddock Paradise at De Paardenkamp for the seventh annual Inspiration Day, organised by curator Joyce Ter Horst.

The day was conceived not simply as an inspirational meeting, but as a focused working session designed to deepen observation and strengthen the artists’ connection to the location and its horses. The programme combined extended sketch sessions with time for discussion and reflection, allowing each artist to develop research that would inform their work for the exhibition.

After a short introduction and group photo, the artists walked to the track area of Paddock Paradise, where they spent the morning observing the horses and making sketches. The atmosphere encouraged quiet concentration: artists studied movement, form, behaviour and character while exploring how these observations might translate into their future works.

Following a shared lunch break, the afternoon continued with another long sketch session. Some artists remained in the same place to continue developing studies, while others moved around the paddock to observe different horses and perspectives. Cameras and sketchbooks were used as tools for visual research, capturing fleeting gestures, changing light and the subtle interactions between the horses and their environment.

The day concluded with an intervision session, where artists shared selected sketches and discussed how the experience of working on site might influence the direction of their exhibition pieces. These conversations helped create a sense of dialogue and coherence within the group, while allowing each artist to reflect on their individual approach.

Beyond the artistic work, the day was also marked by a warm and generous atmosphere. Artists exchanged ideas, shared observations and enjoyed the rare opportunity to spend extended time drawing directly among the horses.

The studies, photographs and impressions gathered during this day will serve as an important foundation for the upcoming exhibition “Bron van Inspiratie”, which will take place on 13–14 June 2026 in Soest.
