Spring Breath and Axel’s Story

⁣The first time I saw Axel, it was the first truly warm day of spring. He stood there, deeply inhaling the air, snorting, with a lively, radiant gaze filled with joy and the freshness of the moment. At that moment, he didn’t seem like an elderly horse at all. ⁣ There was so much energy, wisdom, and inner light in him that I felt instantly inspired. ⁣ That’s how my work Spring Breath was born — as a symbol of how each breath of spring can awaken a sense of youth in us once again, bringing back the joy of life, regardless of age. ⁣ Axel is not just a horse. He’s a true hero. One of Amsterdam’s finest police horses, with an impressive track record — from royal parades to street riots. ⁣ His colleagues recall how he bravely led the way in the most challenging situations, was a reliable partner, yet remained playful, affectionate, and incredibly intelligent. Today, Axel enjoys his well-deserved retirement at De Paardenkamp in Soest. ⁣
